China is one of the oldest civilizations in the world. The Holy Prophet (PBUH) pointed to the knowledge of China and the world, pointing to the civilization of the Arab people going to distant China to gain knowledge. The Chinese civilization developed in the basin of the Huangho River. The Huangho is one of the two largest rivers in China, the other being the Yangtze.
The area of China is about 96 lakh square kilometers. It is the 3rd largest country in the world in terms of land area. The Himalayas and Karakoram Mountains, the Pamir Plateau and the Gien Shan mountain range separate China geographically from South Asia and Central Asia.
The Chinese call their country Chungkuo, meaning 'middle country' or 'middle kingdom'. The name 'China' is given to foreigners. It is probably a corruption of the name of the Qin dynasty of the 3rd century BC. China is the country with the largest population in the world. More than 90% of them are Chinese Han. Apart from the Han, there are 55 other ethnic minorities living in China. Among them are the Tibetans, Mongols, Uighurs, Chuang, Miao, Yi and many other smaller ethnic groups. A common language called Putonghua is used in the education system and in the media.
On the Great Wall
For thousands of years, hereditary kings controlled China's political system. The last dynasty, the Qing Dynasty, fell in 1912. It was replaced by the Republic of China. The People's Republic of China was established in 1949 through the Socialist Revolution. Chairman Mao Zedong was the hero of the revolution.
China is the world's largest exporter and second largest importer. China is a recognized nuclear weapons state and has the world's largest active military with the world's 2nd largest defense budget. The People's Republic of China is a member state of the United Nations.
Beijing City scape
The city of China is Beijing. Beijing is the center of China's politics, education, and culture. How much Beijing has changed is possible if one travels back 20 years. A beautiful city is what Beijing is now. Malls are shopping malls, entertainment centers, and communication hubs in Beijing's western city. There are many unemployed people in Beijing. Within easy reach are China National Museum, Malachak Beijing Olympic Park, Marcopolo 100 Bridge, Meridian Gate etc.
The largest man-made structure is the Great Wall of China. This wall is 5 to 8 meters wide and 8852 km long. This wall starts from Shanghai and ends at Loponur. This wall was built and maintained from the 5th century to the 16th century mainly to protect the northern border of China. Tourists from different parts of the world always come to see this famous wall of China.
The Terracotta Army is located in Xi'an, Shanghai Province. This structure is located in the tomb of Qin Shi Huang, the first emperor of China. The structure was originally made of terracotta clay by the farmers of the time. Farmers believed that these idols would guard the emperor even after death. The architecture was discovered in 1974 by farmers here while excavating the Kuap.
