                                                                         Cambodia

Cambodia is a naturally beautiful country between Thailand and Vietnam. Monarchy has existed in Cambodia since ancient times. It was a French protectorate from 1863 to 1953. In 1970 the monarchy was replaced by a republic and in 1975 a communist government called the Khmer Rouge came to power. They named the country Democratic Kampuchea. In 1979, anti-Khmer Rouge forces in Vietnam and Cambodia overthrew the government and installed a relatively tolerant communist government. The country abandoned socialism in 1989 and a new constitution was passed in 1993 to restore the monarchy.
